Félix Rubén García Sarmiento

was a Nicaraguan poet who initiated the Spanish-American literary movement
known as modernismo (modernism) that flourished at the end of the 19th century.
Darío has had a great and lasting influence on 20th-century Spanish literature
and journalism.
He has been praised as the "Prince of Castilian Letters"
and undisputed father of the modernismo literary movement.

was a Mexican woman who established the Neutral White Cross organization
during the Mexican Revolution.
She was a feminist in the first wave of Mexican feminism
and established the "Mujeres de la raza" (Women of the [Hispanic] Race)
and the International League of Iberian and Latin American Women in cooperation
La Cruz Blanca Neutral (The Neutral White Cross)
was a volunteer infirmary and relief service established during the Mexican Revolution
to care for those wounded in the conflict.
The Red Cross refused to treat insurgents
and the Neutral White Cross was developed to treat all combatants.
After their initial success in Ciudad Juárez,
the organization spread out through 25 states in Mexico for the duration of the war.
It continued as a quasi-governmentally subsidized organization into the 1940s,
when it was converted into an organization to assist children.
The organization is still operating in Mexico City.
