1911 Nobel Prize for his work on heat radiation.
was a German physicist
who in 1893 used theories about heat and electromagnetism
which calculates the emission of a blackbody
at any temperature from the emission
at any one reference temperature.
… also formulated an expression for the black-body radiation
which is correct in the photon-gas limit.
His arguments were based on the notion of adiabatic invariance,
and were instrumental for the formulation of quantum mechanics.

#HappyBirthDay
(January 13, 1893 – August 14, 1961)
was a self-educated American poet, sculptor, painter
and author of fantasy, horror and science fiction short stories.
He achieved early local recognition, largely through the enthusiasm of George Sterling,
for traditional verse in the vein of Swinburne.
As a poet, Smith is grouped with the West Coast Romantics alongside Ambrose Bierce, Joaquin Miller, Sterling, Nora May French, and remembered as "The Last of the Great Romantics" and "The Bard of Auburn".
Smith was one of "the big three of Weird Tales,
but some readers objected to his morbidness and violation of pulp traditions.
The fantasy critic L. Sprague de Camp said of him
that "nobody since Poe has so loved a well-rotted corpse."
Smith was a member of the Lovecraft circle and his literary friendship
with Lovecraft lasted from 1922 until Lovecraft's death in 1937.
His work is marked by an extraordinarily rich and ornate vocabulary,
a cosmic perspective and a vein of sardonic and sometimes ribald humor

Dividing_Cell_Fluorescence.jpg
Epifluorescent imaging of the three components in a dividing human cancer cell. DNA is stained blue, a protein called INCENP is green, and the microtubules are red. Each fluorophore is imaged separately using a different combination of excitation and emission filters, and the images are captured sequentially using a digital CCD camera, then overlaid to give a complete image.

#HappyBirthDay
He is an American physicist based
He has worked to develop the field of fluorescence microscopy
for "the development of super-resolved fluorescence microscopy"
along with Stefan Hell and fellow Cornell alumnus William E. Moerner.
A fluorescence microscope is an optical microscope
instead of, or in addition to, reflection and absorption
to study properties of organic or inorganic substances.
The "fluorescence microscope" refers to any microscope
that uses fluorescence to generate an image,
whether it is a more simple set up like an epifluorescence microscope,
or a more complicated design such as a confocal microscope,
which uses optical sectioning to get better resolution of the fluorescent image.
