Wagner und Fafner - the Complete Wagner - Zac Sawyer.jpg
Wilhelm Richard Wagner
22 May 1813 – 13 February 1883
was a German composer, theatre director, polemicist, and conductor
who is primarily known for his operas
(or, as some of his later works were later known, "music dramas").
Unlike most opera composers,
Wagner wrote both the libretto and the music for each of his stage works.
Initially establishing his reputation
as a composer of works in the romantic vein of Weber and Meyerbeer,
Wagner revolutionised opera through his concept of the Gesamtkunstwerk
("total work of art"),
by which he sought to synthesise the poetic, visual, musical and dramatic arts,
with music subsidiary to drama.
He described this vision in a series of essays published between 1849 and 1852.
Wagner realised these ideas most fully in the first half of the four-opera cycle

Setsubun.jpg
#Celebrate Setsubun (節分)
is the day before the beginning of spring in Japan.
The name literally means "seasonal division",
but usually the term refers to the spring Setsubun,
properly called Risshun (立春) celebrated yearly
on February 3 as part of the Spring Festival (春祭, haru matsuri).
In its association with the Lunar New Year,
spring Setsubun can be and was previously thought of as a sort of New Year's Eve,
and so was accompanied by a special ritual
to cleanse away all the evil of the former year
and drive away disease-bringing evil spirits for the year to come.
This special ritual is called mamemaki (豆撒き, literally "bean scattering").
Setsubun has its origins in tsuina (追儺),
a Chinese custom introduced to Japan in the eighth century.
